A long time back, Coldwell Banker Elite Commercial’s division began working with Wack Development on the 600 Amelia Street project. The building has been long since vacant by the Free Lance Star and many ideas and plans have been vetted over the years, but now there is a direction and the first tenants have decided to move their business’ to Liberty Place.
To be honest, since our office is right across the street we’re pretty excited about our new neighbors! With a mixture of food and business, this previously unused space at the intersection of William Street and Amelia will bring a new energy and some more options to folks downtown.
I got the chance to speak to a few of our new neighbors and two of them were happy to chat with us on video (sorry for the poor quality, there was a lot going on).
Burger Bach seems like it’s going to be awesome. They already have restaurants in Richmond, Charlottesville, and many other locations. And if you check out their online reviews and social engagement people are crazy about them and their New Zealand inspired menu. With burgers, raw bar, drinks and more I’m sure this is going to be one of my new favorite places.
Burger Bach explains their name this way:
“A Bach is a New Zealand term for a ‘holiday home’ where family and friends choose to vacation. Baches are an extensive part of New Zealand’s culture and were thought to be originally short for bachelor pad, but actually are often tended to be a family holiday home. What makes it even more interesting is that it is pronounced “batch.” ”
Pasta Fresca Cafe
Pasta Fresca Cafe is a new restaurant which will be creating fresh pasta, sauces, handmade sandwiches, salads, coffees and other various items.
Blue Cow Ice Cream
Having Blue Cow Ice Cream across the street from my office is going to ensure that I hit the gym every single day after work. I got a chance to try their banana pudding ice cream and it was FANTASTIC! Blue Cow Ice Cream is a small batch ice cream shop that currently has other locations and also seems to have great reviews online. I loved the variety of flavors that Blue Cow offered from their little food truck. Some of them included strawberry balsamic, red rooster coffee, sea salt brickle with caramel swirl, goat cheese with blueberry swirl, cookie dough, Blue Cow patty. (TBH I didn’t try the cow patty, but I’m totally going to in the future).
The Mellow Mushroom is a national franchise that serves a variety of food and they will be one of the largest tenants at Liberty Place. According to their menu, they have some awesome looking food with the centerpiece being a build-your-own pizza menu! I spoke to some folks at the groundbreaking who had eaten at other Mellow Mushrooms and they seemed to love the environment and the food!
Union Bank and Trust
Union Bank and Trust is a great hometown bank that just seems to be growing every day. Union Bank and Trust will be moving their commercial lending and wealth management division to Liberty Place.
Cary Street Partners
Cary Street Partners is a wealth management company that has offices all over the country and is based out of Richmond Virginia. Currently, Cary Street Partners has an office location in Fredericksburg, near the hospital.
Still Lots of Space
Construction should start soon and we’re really eager to watch this new project go up and replace the abandon building and lot as it stands now. There is still a lot of space to be had for anyone looking to move their business or start a new one. Here is a rundown of the project as listed on the Economic Development site:
- A three-story, 86,000-square-foot commercial building on the William Street side of the project. This includes about 58,700 square feet of office space, 9,200 square feet of restaurant space and 18,000 square feet of retail space.
- A 4.5-level above-ground garage on the Amelia Street side of the project that will include approximately 303 parking spaces and have its entrance/exit on Winchester Street. The garage will have a brick exterior and is being patterned after the Calvert Street Garage in Annapolis, Maryland
- A 15-foot-wide private driveway will be built between the two structures that will serve as a loading area connecting Winchester and Douglas streets. The second and third stories of the office space will extend over the driveway and connect to the parking garage.
